What is Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a condition that many women suffer from. It often happens in the fallopian tubes, ovaries, the outer surface of the uterus, and the lining of the pelvic cavity. It is often experienced by women who are in their “child-bearing years”. This is when the cells that should be inside the uterus are found outside and may often lead to infertility. The problem is, not many people know what causes Endometriosis.
The Causes of Endometriosis
Here’s what you have to know.
High Estrogen Levels
The reason why some people say that you should not go for hormonal treatments or drink supplements that may increase hormones such as estrogen and testosterone is because high amounts of estrogen is one of the causes of Endometriosis.
Menstrual Periods that last for more than seven days
A women’s menstruation period should only last for only 3 to 5 days, seven at max, and during the sixth or seventh day, the blood flow should only be very minimal. If it goes even longer than that, then it means that your hormones are not working well and that you should go see a doctor to check if there is something wrong with your system. This would also make you lose more blood than you should, and that’s why it is quite dangerous.
Dioxin Exposure
One of the possible causes is dioxin, a chemical that comes from burning toxic materials, and are also usually found in pesticides. They are highly toxic and are very dangerous to the human body, especially to a woman’s body. Often times, dioxins target the female reproductive system, weaken it, and so it becomes one of the causes of Endometriosis. The problem with dioxins is that they stay too long in the body, and that’s why they tend to ruin one’s body systems. As much as possible, you should stay away from pesticides and environmental pollution caused by forest fires or volcanic eruptions. Stay in a clean and safe place.
Retrograde Menstruation
Retrograde menstruation is where the menstrual fluids or blood move from the fallopian tubes all the way to the peritoneal cavity. In layman’s terms, this means that the fluids move in places where they should not be going because of overly strong menstrual flow. This blocks the fluids from going the right way, or may even cause them to go back up, resulting in abnormal menstrual cycles. Inflammation may also occur because of this situation. Some say that vigorous yoga training may attribute to getting retrograde menstruation.
Surgery, Especially a Caesarean Operation
Once someone undergoes surgery, there’s always the threat of endometriosis. A caesarean operation or way of birth can cause endometriosis because it makes the endometrial tissues go directly outside the uterus, and they’re not actually supposed to be there, and thus, the situation becomes damaging to the reproductive system. Sometimes, surgeons may not notice that they have already moved the endometrial tissues in a different place. When one has abdominal scars that have been brought upon by surgery, it could also make someone prone to endometriosis.
A Weak Immune System
This is because the body no longer knows how to distinguish dangerous cells, and how to destroy the said cells, as well. Also, it is not able to realize that some tissues are growing in parts of the body where they are not supposed to grow. Aside from being one of the causes, a weak immune system may also lead to certain types of cancers, and that’s why you really have to take care of yourself.
Take Care of Yourself and Live a Healthy Life
In order to help yourself get away from the causes of endometriosis, you should start living a healthy life. This could be done by eating fruits and vegetables, maintaining a well-balanced diet, and getting enough amounts of rest and exercise. While the ailment may not happen until your late 20s or so, it would be good to start taking care of yourself today and remember that.
